On The Set Of MERCY With Jay Beattie

MERCY- Above are two photos from the set of Mercy in New Jersey. These two shots were taken by their sound man Jeff Pullman. In the photos are Jay Beattie, Rachel Filippelli (Berman/Braun exec.) and Allan Arkush (director). The one with Allan is kinda funny -- he was exhausted, fighting the clock and they were setting up this green screen shot. I think his body language says it all. They are working really hard to produce a quality show. If you haven't watched already please start watching MERCY.

Episode 105 is airing on NBC this wednesday at 8pm. It is written by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin.

Criminal Minds Fans Start Call In Campaign!

Criminal Minds: In response to the recent articles and CBS releases about actors, the Criminal Minds moderators feel it is time to be proactive by expressing our feelings about possibly losing an actor from Criminal Minds. So lets repeat the wonderful call in campaign we enacted during the WGA strike.

Here are the direct phone numbers for Nina Tassler and Les Moonves and a sample script of what you should say:

Nina Tassler: 818-655-1400

Les Moonves: 818-655-1600

Hello.

My name is [insert name]. I fall into the [insert demographic
information] bracket and I live in [insert your city and state].

I am calling on behalf of the actors of my favorite show, Criminal Minds.

I wanted to let you know that if any of the actors from Criminal Minds, especially Thomas Gibson, do not return for season 5 then I will no longer be watching the show. Losing any of the main characters on the show would be damaging, but to lose Aaron Hotchner would take away the heart of the show and ruin it. Criminal Minds, without Thomas Gibson, is not a show I want to watch or support. It will also make me reconsider watching any show that airs on CBS.

I hope that you will not make the decision to cut Thomas Gibson or any of the cast members of Criminal Minds. If you have already done so, then I hope that you will reconsider and reverse that decision.

Thank you for your time,
[your name]

Criminal Minds Fans Write Letter to CBS

Criminal Minds: Please use this thread to post a message to CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler about the firing of the Criminal Minds writers and the recent media reports that CBS is cutting actors from popular television shows.

Let her know that we object to their "changing the winning formula" of Criminal Minds. "Why change a show that works?" "Why lay off writers and actors that make the show great?" "Don't change a winning formula." We won't tolerate any more changes with this show. We will stop watching. Period.

Here's your chance to speak your "Minds"............

I will print off and fax her office daily all the comments left.

GO TO THE CMF BLOG AND LEAVE YOUR COMMENT THERE:

VINCE VAUGHN stars in "Four Christmases,"

Brad (VINCE VAUGHN) is very uncomfortable holding a baby in New Line Cinema's romantic comedy, "Four Christmases," also starring REESE WITHERSPOON. The film is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

VINCE VAUGHN (Brad) has established himself as one of Hollywood's biggest names in comedy.

Vaughn recently starred in and co-produced the comedy "Fred Claus," his third collaboration with director David Dobkin. He also co-wrote, produced and starred in the 2006 hit comedy "The Break-Up," opposite Jennifer Aniston. The film opened number one at the box office and went on to gross $205 million worldwide. "The Break-Up" was the first feature film produced under the banner of Vaughn's production company, Wild West Picture Show Productions. That same year, Wild West Picture Show Productions produced "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights--Hollywood to the Heartland," which chronicles Vaughn and four stand-up comedians on and off stage, traversing the country on a tour bus while performing 30 consecutive nights in 30 cities. The film debuted at the Toronto Film Festival.

In the summer of 2005, Vaughn teamed with Owen Wilson to star in David Dobkin's smash hit comedy "Wedding Crashers." With a domestic box office total of over $209 million, the film is the second highest grossing R-rated comedy to date and the seventh highest grossing R-rated film to date.

In 2004, Vaughn starred opposite Ben Stiller in the hit comedy "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story." That same year, he was also seen in Todd Phillips' "Starsky and Hutch," with Stiller and Owen Wilson. Additionally, Vaughn starred in F. Gary Gray's "Be Cool," with an ensemble cast including John Travolta and Uma Thurman; Doug Liman's 2005 actioner "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie; and the indie feature "Thumbsucker," alongside Keanu Reeves and Vincent D'Onofrio.

A Chicago native, Vaughn first caught the attention of critics and audiences in Doug Liman's 1996 indie sleeper hit and cult classic "Swingers." In 2001, Vaughn reunited with "Swingers" screenwriter and co-star Jon Favreau in the comedy classic "Made," for which Vaughn also served as producer. His additional film credits include "Domestic Disturbance," "The Cell," "Psycho," "The Prime Gig," David Dobkin's "Clay Pigeons," "Return to Paradise," "A Cool Dry Place," "The Locusts" and Steven Spielberg's "The Lost World: Jurassic Park 2." Vaughn was seen last fall in the Sean Penn-helmed "Into the Wild," an adaptation of the nonfiction bestseller by Jon Krakauer.

Under his Wild West Picture Show Productions banner, Vaughn has several projects in development, including "Male Doula," a high-concept comedy written by Dana Fox, based on an idea of Vaughn's; and "Realtors," a satire centered on rival realtors in the cutthroat residential housing market.

He is currently in production on the comedy "Couples Retreat," written by Jon Favreau and set to star Vaughn and Favreau under the direction of Peter Billingsley, about couples who attend a retreat in order to rejuvenate their relationships.

Four Christmases starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon

Four Christmases
In Theatres Wednesday, November 26
No one enjoys the holidays more than Brad and Kate.

Every December 25th, this happily unmarried, upscale San Francisco couple embark on a holiday tradition they have shared every year since they met--ditching their crazy families for a relaxing, fun-filled vacation in some sunny exotic locale.

There, sipping margaritas by the pool, they toast the season, knowing they have once again avoided the chaos and emotional fallout of their four respective households: divorced parents, squabbling siblings, out-of-control kids and all the simmering resentments and awkward moments that are the hallmarks of every family Christmas.

But not this year.

Shorts and sunglasses packed, Brad (VINCE VAUGHN) and Kate (REESE WITHERSPOON) are trapped at the San Francisco airport by a fogbank that cancels every outbound flight. Worse yet, they are caught on camera by a local news crew, revealing their whereabouts to the whole city...and to their families. With no escape and no excuses, they are now expected home by Brad's father.

And Kate's mother.

And Brad's mother.

And Kate's father.

Four Christmases in one day.

As they brace themselves for a marathon of homecomings, Brad and Kate expect the worst--and that's exactly what they get. But as Brad counts down the minutes to their freedom, Kate surprisingly finds herself tuned to the ticking of a different clock.

At the end of the day, each will gain a new perspective on where they came from...and where they're going. Getting to know themselves and each other as they really are could finally give them a chance at the kind of love they've only been playing at.
New Line Cinema presents, in association with Spyglass Entertainment, a Birnbaum/Barber Production, a Wild West Picture Show / Type A Films. "Four Christmases" will be released domestically by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. It is rated PG-13 for "some sexual humor and language." Soundtrack album on New Line Records.

Criminal Minds bags great guest stars.

Criminal Minds: TV Guide has given me permission to post their Criminal Minds casting article. Thanks TV Guide!

Criminal Minds is packing quite a one-two punch for February sweeps.

CBS' Wednesday-night powerhouse has tapped the original Terminator film's Kyle Reese — aka Michael Biehn — to guest-star in a February episode, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Appearing in same installment will be Maddie Hayes — that is, four-time Emmy nominee and three-time Golden Globe winner Cybill Shepherd, who as of late has been rather omnipresent on prime time, guesting on the likes of Psych and Samantha Who?

Biehn will be playing a local detective who helps the BAU out with their latest vexing case, while Shepherd has been cast as the estranged mother of a serial killer. (Or is it the mother of a strange serial killer? Six or a half-dozen or the other.)

Romantic Comedy. When upscale, happily unmarried San Francisco couple Kate and Brad find themselves socked in by fog on Christmas morning, their exotic vacation plans morph into the family-centric holiday they had, until now, gleefully avoided. Out of obligation--and unable to escape--they trudge to not one, not two, but four relative-choked festivities, increasingly mortified to find childhood fears raised, adolescent wounds reopened...and their very future together uncertain. As Brad counts the hours to when he can get away from their parents, step-parents, siblings and an assortment of nieces and nephews, Kate is starting to hear the ticking of a different kind of clock. And by the end of the day, she is beginning to wonder if their crazy families' choices are not so crazy after all.

Eating Too Much? 'Law & Order' May Be Guilty

Crime TV has become a staple of the typical American viewer's diet. From "Law & Order" and "CSI" - both of which come in three separate flavors - to "Criminal Minds," "Cold Case" and "The Closer," it's hard to avoid the banquet of brutality offered up each week, each day or even each hour if you happen to have cable.

But a new study published in the Journal of Consumer Research may give viewers pause about all the death they're routinely letting into their living rooms. Apparently, must-bleed-TV may just make you eat and shop more.

In the study, titled "The Sweet Escape," researchers conducted four experiments revealing that "consumers who have been recently reminded of their own impending mortality" spend more on groceries - and actually eat more of those groceries.

"We found that when people think about the fact that they're going to die someday - not now, but someday - they want to consume more of everything," says Naomi Mandel, co-author of the study and an associate professor of marketing at Arizona State University. "We find this with snacks and drinks but also all kinds of different foods: frozen foods, meats, vegetables, everything."

Shopping, snacking for comfort
Struck by the spike in shopping following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Mandel and her colleagues designed experiments to measure consumers' response to "mortality salience" - that is, the awareness they will die.

In one experiment, the "mortality" group wrote about their own impending deaths while the control group wrote about going to the dentist. Afterward, when each group was given a grocery list for a hypothetical party and asked to check off items they needed to purchase, members of the mortality salience group selected significantly more items than their counterparts in a control group.

In another experiment, two groups were asked to write about either their own deaths or a painful medical procedure and then instructed to taste-test cookies. As before, the mortality salience group consumed more, eating 25 percent more cookies than the control group.

What does this have to do with "Law & Order"?

"Consumers, especially those with a lower self-esteem, may be more susceptible to overconsumption when confronted with images of death during the news or their favorite crime scene investigation shows," Mandel concludes in her study.

"If people are watching and thinking something like this could happen to them, it's likely to cause them to overconsume."

Dov Eisenberger, a 37-year-old insurance company president from Englewood, N.J., says Mandel's study might help explain his wife's summer shopping hiatus.

"My wife is a 'Law & Order' junkie plus she watches 'The Closer,' 'Criminal Minds' and every 'CSI' out there," he says. "And she would dispute this, but I find that her spending habits increase during the regular season and then drop off during the summer. I don't know for sure that I can connect it to 'Law & Order,' but she does watch a lot of shows full of blood and guts during the year and then in the summer, there's nothing."

Overconsumption can be complicated
Could other factors be at play? Experts point out that the reasons for overconsumption can be as convoluted as the plots on some of TV's outlandish crime shows.

Nancy Molitor, a clinical psychologist and assistant professor at Northwestern University, says that while it's interesting to link eating and shopping to a fear of impending death - a fear that's been with humans for thousands of years - there are many reasons why people overconsume.

"Overspending can be a sign of mania or part of a bipolar disease condition and there are lots of psychological reasons why people overspend too - anxiety, feeling deprived in their emotional life," Molitor says. "People spend to distract themselves, to fill themselves up. And overeating is complicated, as well. We know that people who are obese have a long history of overeating that starts in their childhood. It could be anxiety but it's also a learned habit. They're bored so they turn on the TV and reach for the potato chips."

Cindy Rankin, a 46-year-old Seattle writer, says it's not crime shows that "ring her death bell," but the evening news.

"The crime shows don't make me anxious, they're entertainment," she says. "There's not a whole lot of chance that I'm going to pass out at some chichi party in Miami and get eaten by a 40-foot boa constrictor. But when I'm watching the news or thinking of people who have died in my family, it brings up real fears of death. And then, yeah, I might go shopping online or eat things I wouldn't eat normally or eat more of what I have around."

Should crime shows come with a warning that the contents may make consumers fat (and/or broke)?

"I wouldn't suggest that," says Mandel. "But retailers might think about installing TVs and playing the news in their stores. There's always something on about murder or terrorism or car crashes. And it might cause people to put more things in their cart. I wouldn't encourage it, but it might work."
